This Butterfly was photographed in Costa Rica. Butterflies in the genus Caligo are commonly called Owl butterflies, after their huge eye spots, which resemble owls' eyes. There are about 20 species in this genus, found in the rain forests and secondary forests of Mexico, Central and South America.
