These hummingbirds were photographed in the Savegre Mountain Biological Reserve of the San Gerardo de Dota in Costa Rica
The Scintillant Hummingbird is very small and breeds only in the mountains of Costa Rica and western Panama. It bird inhabits brushy forest edges, coffee plantations and sometimes gardens at altitudes from 3,000 feet and more when not breeding. It is only 2.5 inches long. The male weighs 0.070547 oz. The black bill is short and straight.
